'I Can't Leave My House': Extreme Storm Sweeps Through Southern Brazil

Severe thunderstorms and strong winds struck Itaara, Brazil, on the night of Wednesday, May 1, as an extreme weather alert was in place in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Eduardo Leite, Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, said the ongoing flooding was “the biggest climate disaster” in the state’s history.

“I’m still isolated here, I can’t leave my house because the rivers have taken over the roads, Carlo M Rocchi, who recorded this footage from his house in Itaara, told Storyful.
