Capitola Wharf Damaged by Powerful Tides

Widespread and “significant” damage was seen in Santa Cruz County, California, after a powerful storm brought flooding and dangerous surf conditions to parts of the state’s Central Coast on Thursday, January 5, local officials said.

Jonathan Linden said he took this video around 1 pm on Thursday showing a partially damaged Capitola Wharf. Nearby Seacliff Pier also was reported to have suffered damage.

Santa Cruz County officials advised residents to avoid the coast due to dangerous surf.

More rain was expected in the area on Saturday, the National Weather Service said. Credit: Jonathan Linden/KAZU News via Storyful
