A passenger had to jump into a canal to escape a car that was left dangling precariously off a bridge after it smashed through a wall. See SWNS story SWLNbridge. The red Vauxhall Corsa was left hanging on by a thread after it struck a bridge wall on Langley Road near Wolverhampton at 2am on Saturday morning. Dramatic pictures show the hatchback balancing over the edge with only two wheels touching the ground and a completely crumpled front end. The car managed to completely destroy the bridge's wall before deploying both airbags and then somehow stopping before falling in. Cops had to seal the road off to the public while specialist teams worked to recover the precariously wedged car. Amazingly both occupants were reportedly fine but one passenger was forced to dive into the canal below to escape.

A car was left dangling over a bridge after crashing through its wall - with one passenger escaping by dropping into the canal below.

Dramatic pictures show the red Vauxhall Corsa left hanging precariously over the side of the bridge after ploughing through its wall.

The images show the car balancing with just two wheels touching the ground, its front completely crumpled and both airbags released.

The car completely destroyed the bridge's wall but somehow stopped short of plunging into the water below.

Amazingly, both occupants were reportedly uninjured in the incident, but one passenger was forced to dive into the canal below to escape.

The crash happened on Langley Road near Wolverhampton, West Midlands, at 2am on Saturday morning.

It was witnessed by narrow boat owner Stephanie Hardman, who described her shock at seeing the vehicle dangling off the bridge when her boat passed under it.

She said: "They crashed at approximately 2am Saturday morning. Both occupants were fine, but the passenger opened the door and fell into the canal.

"That's what the police officer on the scene that I spoke to said.

"When I stepped out of the back of the boat I saw it and then walked closer to have a look."
