Cara and Poppy Delevingne empty their wardrobes for charity

The fashion pack were to be found in an unlikely location this weekend: the car park of Selfridges, where designer Alex Eagle hosted her annual charity car boot sale. This was no normal car boot, and anyone looking for a bargain selection of somebody’s grandma’s knick-knacks may have been left disappointed. Inexplicably handsome waiters were handing out prosecco (at 11am), and the car park reverberated with 70s disco tracks courtesy of DJ Mary Charteris. Mini Coopers and Range Rovers were stuffed with designer clothes and shoes, donated by well heeled celebs like Cara Delevingne and Sophie Turner. Elizabeth Debicki also gave a selection of things she wore as Diana in The Crown.

We found Poppy Delevingne by her boot, nursing a glass of Della Vite (the prosecco brand she shares with her sisters) after a friend’s 40th birthday the night before. “I’m a total hoarder so an event like this is so dreamy and perfect,” she said. “This is basically half my wardrobe, which I’ve had for years and years, and it feels really good to get rid of it.” Delevingne’s clothes are a mass of leopard print, sequins and fluff, inspired by her mother Pandora’s mantra: “wear things that make you happy.” Her style icons? “Daphne Guinness, Beyonce, and Jefferson Hack.”

British designer Charlotte Olympia, food writer Skye McAlpine and stylist Elizabeth Saltzman also hosted boots, as well as jewellery designer friends Noor Fares and Eugenie Niarchos. The sale raised over £350,000 for Women for Women, a charity which helps female survivors of war rebuild their lives.
