A section of Cardiff city centre has been transformed into what appears to be a film set with tents, boxes and pallets set up in the middle of a footpath. The set has been constructed outside Coffi Clwb and Jacobs Antique Centre on West Canal Wharf, both of which remain open as normal.

It is not yet known when filming is set to begin on the street. It also hasn't been officially confirmed what programme or film the set is for, but fans have spotted one detail that points overwhelmingly towards it being more Doctor Who. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

It wouldn't be the first time the Timelord and his companions have been spotted in south Wales in recent months, with filming in Cardiff and the surrounding area ramping up since Ncuti Gatwa began filming as the 15th Doctor. St Mary Street in Cardiff and St Mary's Church in Nash, near Newport, both popped up in the recent Christmas special.

And Gatwa and his co-stars have been seen all around Wales filming the first two series of the show's new era. His first series, dubbed season one, airs in May with the first two episodes dropping simultaneously on BBC iPlayer at midnight on May 11 and airing before the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final that evening.

While there is no initially obvious Doctor Who iconography around the set on West Canal Wharf, Nick from the Doctor Who Filming Locations fan account paid a visit to the set and found posters appearing to bear the likeness of Jonah Hauer-King - who was spotted filming with Millie Gibson in Barry in January - alongside a crown insignia that was present when filming took place elsewhere in the city earlier in the week.

The live-action Little Mermaid star is joining the series as an unnamed character alongside Corrie star Gibson, who plays new companion Ruby Sunday and his likeness has also been spotted on the Hugh James building on Wood Street. In a series first, episodes of season one will become available at midnight on iPlayer on the day of release, meaning fans can choose to watch before the traditional Saturday evening slot. The series will also broadcast on Disney+ where available in the rest of the world.

The new series will star returning characters Rose Noble (Yasmin Finney), Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford), Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), Carla Sunday (Michelle Greenidge), Cherry Sunday (Angela Wynter) and Mrs Flood (Anita Dobson) as well as new guest stars Jinkx Monsoon, Jonathan Groff, Indira Varma, Aneurin Barnard and Lenny Rush among others. Varada Sethu, star of Disney+'s Andor, has been confirmed as the Doctor's new companion alongside Ruby Sunday in 2025's season two.

Sethu said: "I feel like the luckiest person in the world. It is such an honour to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I'm so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family - because that is what they are - for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel so at home. I couldn't ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this adventure with, this is SO much fun!"
