Carey Mulligan responds to Saltburn Oscars snub
Saltburn star Carey Mulligan has responded to the film's snub at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Despite setting the internet and beyond ablaze with its provocative and nude scenes, all star cast and, of course, that moment involving Barry Keoghan and some leftover bathwater, the Emerald Fennell-directed Saltburn failed to garner any nominations at the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards.
In an interview with The Times, Maestro star Mulligan said: "I went to the Saltburn premiere in LA and I sat with Em and there were 1,700 people having just the greatest f***ing experience, so I don’t know."

Continuing, Mulligan added: "I think the main takeaway is just how incredibly it was picked up.
"Initially, people didn’t know how to respond and then suddenly it took over the internet and now it's become this enormous phenomenon where you can buy candles called 'Jacob Elordi's Bathwater'."
Despite not picking up any Oscar nominations, Saltburn received several Golden Globe nods and five BAFTAs – including Best British Film, Best Actor for Keoghan, Best Supporting Actress for Rosamund Pike and Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi.

Although Mulligan herself received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role as Leonard Bernstein's (Bradley Cooper) wife Felicia Montealegre in Maestro, she also commented on Barbie director Greta Gerwig's Oscar snub in the same interview.
"I’m gutted for Greta because I don’t know what else you can do as a director to get nominated," she said.
Continuing, she added: "You make a critically acclaimed film that's also an incredible global success, and yet you don't get nominated?”
Historical drama Oppenheimer has led the nominations to the 2024 Oscars with 13 – the full list is available here – while Poor Things has scored 11, followed by 10 for Killers of the Flower Moon, Barbie with eight and Maestro with seven.
Saltburn is now available to watch on Prime Video.
