Yahoo News Carrie Underwood drops Super Bowl song with Ludacris
Carrie Underwood has teamed up with Ludacris for a banger we're probably going to hear ahead of pretty much every sporting event for the rest of our lives.
The star, who won American Idol back in 2005, released the track 'The Champion' on January 12 after it was commissioned by US TV giant NBC for their upcoming coverage of Super Bowl 52.
"When we met with Carrie last year to discuss the Super Bowl open, we each brought ideas. Carrie presented first. After she spoke, we looked at each other and said 'that's the one,'" Fred Gaudelli, Executive Producer of NBC Sunday Night Football and the network's Super Bowl LII presentation, said of the song.
He then revealed that producers liked it so much that they decided it would also be the theme for their coverage of Winter Olympic Games, set to take place in PyeongChang, South Korea, next month.
"Later on, our Olympics producers listened to 'The Champion' and decided that it would be a perfect complement for our Winter Games coverage," said Fred.
As for Carrie, she revealed that she wants the inspirational song to be the soundtrack to people's lives as they overcome obstacles.
"When we were writing 'The Champion', our main focus was to celebrate athletes at the top of their game, but we also wanted the song to resonate with people in their everyday lives," she said of teaming up with Ludacris.
"We hope the lyrics will inspire people to push themselves beyond their limits to conquer anything they are trying to accomplish or overcome. There's a champion in every single one of us!"
'The Champion' is the first song Carrie's released since she had a nasty fall that required 40 to 50 stitches to her face, as she revealed in a blog that her appearance could be a little different when fans see her next.
The track will be displayed in a special video before Super Bowl LII, which was filmed last year.
As for the rest of the entertainment during the show, P!nk will be performing the US national anthem before the game while Justin Timberlake will perform the half-time show.
'The Champion' is already at number one on the US iTunes chart, and is also gaining steam on our side of the pond after BBC Radio 2 got the first official spin of the pop anthem on January 11.
Super Bowl LII will air in the UK on both the BBC and Sky on February 4.
