Casualty's Nigel Harman hints at romance for MaxBBC

Casualty star Nigel Harman has hinted at romance for his new character Max Cristie.

The actor, who previously played Dennis Rickman on EastEnders, joined the BBC medical drama earlier this month. His character Max, who's the new clinical lead, will make his debut tomorrow night (February 18).

Harman has teased details about what's in store for Max in a clip on the show's official social media accounts, hinting that love could be in the air further along the line.

"He's a natural doctor and a very good surgeon," said Harman. "He's very empathetic with his patients. He doesn't always toe the line, but if he thinks it's the right thing to do he doesn't mind striding over that line in order to save a patient.

"There's some flirtations around the building with Max and other characters, who I shan't mention," he teased. "Where they lead, we'll have to wait and see."

While Harman didn't expand on Max's potential romantic interests, we do know that the character has a history with Dylan Keogh, with the pair attending the same medical school.

"[Max] knows that he can always get under Dylan's skin," revealed Harman. "He's a bit like a schoolboy in that respect, even though they're old enough to know better.

"He starts antagonising Dylan any way he can just for his own amusement, and that's an ongoing thread with their behaviour. When they work together they're brilliant – when they're in the staff room they're at loggerheads," he continued.

Upon his announcement as part of the soap's cast, Harman said he was "honoured and grateful" to be a part of things, with executive producer Jon Sen adding: "When we conceived the character of Max we knew we needed an actor with craft, charm and charisma and we approached Nigel knowing he'd be the perfect choice.

"We were over the moon when he agreed to play the role and from what we've seen so far, Nigel's creating an iconic character who is set to stir things up within the Emergency Department."

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
