Cause of derelict building blaze in Queniborough under investigation

Fire investigators are today trying to work out the cause of a fire at a derelict building. Flames tore through the disused home in Melton Road, Queniborough, near Syston, at 8.45pm yesterday (Sunday).

Crews from Leicester, Loughborough, Birstall, Shepshed and Billesdon rushed to the scene of the fire, which was described as being "well alight".

The firefighting operation was still going on at 10.30pm. At first, three crews had gone to tackle the blaze but a further two crews had to be requested due to the severity of the fire.

Leicestershire Police also attended the scene and closed Melton Road while the crews dealt with the blaze.

Today (Monday) fire crews will be returning to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire, which happened in a building described by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service as a derelict domestic building measuring about 15 by 10 metres in area.
