Gary O’Rourke: Cavan won 90 per cent of their restarts and there was little O’Rourke could do to stop Liam Gray’s goal from close range. Was called for over-carrying in extra-time under pressure from McShane and Tyrone converted the free. 6.5

Cian Reilly: A tough afternoon for Reilly on the lively Darren McCurry. The Tyrone man scored 0-4 and set up Tyrone’s goal. 5.5

Killian Brady: Scored a point from full-back and was generally solid in possession. Made way for Killian Clarke after an hour. 6.5

Brian O’Connell: Couldn’t handle Darragh Canavan early on and Cian Reilly was moved on to the Tyrone star. Fared much better in the second half and scored two excellent points. 7

Padraig Faulkner: Outstanding against Monaghan, Faulkner delivered another top-class performance against Tyrone. Took his goal well and provided real leadership for Cavan. 8

Niall Carolan: Committed a few early fouls on Kieran McGeary, but was otherwise excellent on the former Footballer of the Year and buried his goal in the second half with aplomb. 7.5

Conor Brady: Guilty of a few rash tackles, Brady was involved plenty without having any major influence on the game. 6

Luke Fortune: Drafted in from the start and scored a fine point in the first half. Failed to appear for the second half though after being withdrawn. 5.5

Oisin Kiernan (Denn): Had a difficult task up against the opposing Brian Kennedy and lost his man for Tyrone’s goal and was replaced before half-time. 5

Ciaran Brady: Was denied an early shot on goal by a stunning block by Mattie Donnelly and didn’t have his usual influence on proceedings. 5.5

Gerard Smith: One of Cavan’s best players against Monaghan, Gerard Smith was largely subdued against Tyrone aside from one point from play. 6

Oisin Kiernan (Castlerahan): Called ashore at half-time by Raymond Galligan, Kiernan was off the pace in the first half. 5

Cian Madden: Took the fight to Tyrone in the first quarter when Cavan were otherwise second-best. Scored 1-1 from play early on, quieter in the second half. 7

Paddy Lynch: Found it difficult to escape Padraig Hampsey and was, perhaps, fortunate to escape punishment for his part in the incident which resulted in his marker picking up a black card. Better in the second and finished with five points. 7

Oisin Brady: If Madden brought the fight to Tyrone in the first half, Brady was their go-to-man in the second. After a slow start, he grew into the game and finished with 0-3 from play. 7.5

Subs

James Smith: Made a huge impact off the bench. Won a few breaks at midfield, but caused panic in the Tyrone defence when stationed at full-forward during Hampsey’s black card. 7

Tiarnan Madden: Put his hands up for a starting berth in the All-Ireland series with a fine display in the second half. Might have plundered a late winning goal, but still managed two points from play. 7

Jason McLoughlin: Brought in to try and halt Darragh Canavan’s rampage, but the Tyrone attacker was elusive until going off with cramp. 5.5

Cormac O’Reilly: Another who put himself about well when introduced, O’Reilly is a great option and made good use of possession in the second half. 6.5

Killian Clarke: Introduced for the final 10 minutes of normal time and slotted in at full-back and fared reasonably well. 6.5

Conor Rehill: On in extra-time and had his hands full with Cathal McShane. 5.5

Ryan Donohoe: One shot dropped short and another wide in extra-time, Donohoe had chances to be Cavan’s hero. 5

Tristan Noach Hofmann: Not on long enough to be rated.

Tyrone ratings

Niall Morgan: Kickouts were excellent as per usual. Was more guarded than usual when straying up the field, perhaps after watching Derry’s defeat by Donegal. One fisted clearance led to a Cavan goal, but took another superb catch in the first half. 6.5

Conal Devlin: A tough Championship debut for the Dungannon native. Had spells on Oisin Brady then James Smith and both men caused damage. 5.5

Padraig Hampsey: Looked back to his brilliant best and had Lynch’s number until his black card. Controversial as the decision was, he retaliated and pulled Lynch to the ground in full view of the linesman. 7

Michael McKernan: Was outstanding in the first half of Tyrone’s League campaign before getting injured and picked up where he left off on Sunday. Kicked three points from play from corner-back. 8

Kieran McGeary: Named to start at centre-forward, McGeary dropped back from the off. Was checked off the ball a few times and failed to impose himself on the game. 5.5

Mattie Donnelly: Put his injury woes behind him with a vintage display. Prevented two Cavan scores, one of which might have been a goal, and kicked a point from play. 8

Niall Devlin: Had a chance to win the game at the end of normal time, but was off target and had options to pass. Made amends with a fine score in extra-time and did well on Gerard Smith. 7

Brian Kennedy: Excellent drive to set up Tyrone’s goal and scored a brilliant point from play. Took a knock to the head and was withdrawn at the end of normal time. 7

Aodan Donaghy: Another Championship debutant for Tyrone, Donaghy wasn’t found wanting in the engine room. Experience will stand to him. 6.5

Ciaran Daly: Chased two lost causes, one of which he scored himself and the other he passed for Niall Devlin to score. 7

Seanie O’Donnell: Played much of football in attack during the League, but was needed in defence on Sunday. Fared well albeit Tyrone might be better served playing the Trillick ace further up the pitch. 6.5

Liam Gray: Thrown in at the deep end for his first senior appearance for Tyrone. Took his goal chance well in the first half and enjoyed some good moments before making way late on. 6.5

Darren McCurry: Scored 0-4, two frees and two from play. His free from 50 metres out was outstanding and he got the better of Cian Reilly before coming off with cramp. 7.5

Darragh Canavan Star Man: Cavan tried all they could do stop Canavan and he had three difference markers for company over the course of 82 minutes. Scored 0-7, including four from play. A joy to watch. 8.5

Ruairi Canavan: Given a chance to impress from the start on Sunday, the younger Canavan sibling took his two point well. Quiet in the second half and withdrawn before the hour mark. 6.5

Subs

Ben Cullen: Was impressive during the League and was the first Tyrone man called in off the bench for McGeary and landed a fine point in the second half. 6.5

Cathal McShane: Brilliant hassling to win a free off Cavan goalkeeper Gary O’Rourke in extra-time. 6.5

Joe Oguz: Surprisingly dropped for Liam Gray, the Errigal Ciaran man gave Tyrone a physical presence in extra-time. 6.5

Michael O’Neill: A first appearance of 2024 for O’Neill, the Ardboe clubman was assured in possession. 6.5

Lorcan McGarrity: Fared well introduced in extra-time. 6

Tiernan Quinn: Held his nerve to convert a crucial free when McCurry and Canavan were off the pitch. 6

Conor Cush: Not on long enough to be rated

Nathan McCarron: Not on long enough to be rated
