CBS to Honor Dick Van Dyke With 98th Birthday Special Highlighting His Career

CBS is throwing Dick Van Dyke a once-in-a-century bash.

Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic will celebrate the legendary entertainer’s 98th birthday on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 9/8c, the network announced Thursday.

Per an an official release, Van Dyke “has inspired generations of performers and will be honored for his incredible contributions to the arts and entertainment.” The two-hour special will feature performances, special guests and a holiday number, as well as footage from Van Dyke films like Mary Poppins, Bye Bye Birdie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

“I started with CBS under contract in 1955 with the CBS morning show, then The Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder,” Van Dyke said via statement. “I’ve been with the CBS family for almost 70 years, and I couldn’t be prouder. I’m incredibly honored that CBS will be throwing a 98th birthday special for me. Can’t wait to be part of the show!”

Van Dyke and his wife, Arlene Silver, will be among the special’s producers. Ashley Edens (Dancing With the Stars, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts) will serve as showrunner. Craig and Clara Plestis and Deena Katz will executive-produce.
