CCTV images have been released after a man sustained serious back injuries in an attack outside a Newcastle cocktail bar.

A man in his 40s was assaulted outside Livello on Lower Dean Street in the city centre after being approached by four men at around 9.30pm on Saturday, May 18. One of the men then punched the victim twice in the face, causing a cut to his right eye.

Police say the man was then punched again and was left with serious injuries to his back and significant bruising and swelling to his ribs. Officers have since released images of four people they would like to trace as they investigate the assault report.

A statement from Northumbria Police said: "A number of inquiries have been carried out by officers since first receiving the report. Today (Wednesday), officers have released images of four men they would like to identify.

"They were in the area at the time the assault is reported to have taken place and officers believe they may be able to assist with their inquiries. The men, or anyone who knows who they are, should get in touch with Northumbria Police by sending a private message on social media, visiting the live chat on the Force website or by completing a crime update form."
