A new CCTV image has emerged as search and rescue teams continue to look for missing TV doctor Michael Mosley in the blistering heat on the Greek island of Symi. The image, taken on Wednesday, shows him near a marina in the village of Pedi, heading towards rocky hills.

Emergency services, including helicopters, drones and dogs, are still searching the Greek island. Local police were alerted to the disappearance of the 67-year-old Briton on the island on Wednesday, after he was last seen leaving a beach on foot.

Police and firefighters have been using drones to search Symi, part of the Dodecanese island chain, located about 25 miles north of Rhodes. The new image follows a claim by a Greek restaurant owner that she had CCTV footage showing Dr Michael Mosley just before he went missing on the island.

Grini Kaurmadia, whose family owns the St Nikolas Beach restaurant, said their security camera captured Dr Mosley using their bathroom around 1pm on Wednesday afternoon, reports the Mirror. The restaurant's footage is now being handed over to local police, who visited the restaurant on Saturday morning to speak with staff.

Symi's mayor, Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, has pledged to continue the extensive search operation involving police, firefighters with drones, and divers. Speaking through a translator, the long-serving mayor questioned how anyone could survive in the heat, which topped 40C on the day the 'Trust Me, I'm A Doctor' presenter disappeared.

Dr Mosley's representatives have confirmed that he is indeed missing. His wife, Dr Clare Bailey, has been actively involved in the search efforts and their four children have travelled to Symi to assist. She first expressed concerns about his whereabouts on Wednesday when he failed to return to their lodgings after six hours.

On Friday, Mika Papakalodouka, the mayor's daughter, told PA news agency that a significant number of island residents had joined the search, even using their own boats in an attempt to locate the British national. She said: "It is a small island, people talk. We're good people actually here. Everybody is looking for him. It's such a small island to get lost on. It's so weird for us. Everybody is worried and looking for him."

A woman reported spotting Dr Mosley, who is known for popularising the 5:2 diet and his appearances on The One Show and This Morning, in the Pedi area on Wednesday.

On Saturday morning, individual firefighters were forced to split up and are covering vast expanses of steep rocky terrain on their own. One uniformed worker said there were 10 of them searching multiple summits because it was too dangerous for large crews to work during the summer months.

Firefighter Stergos Giakoumakis said from near one of the peaks: "Because it's not so easy to bring here 100 people, especially this period, because it's the most dangerous period. Everything is dry and it is too dangerous for firemen to search."

A different team worked in the morning and there was a half-hour handover, he said. Firefighters have also released a drone as they trek up a mountainous area through unrelenting heat.

There is no path or shade near the top of the hill that sits between Pedi bay and Agia Marina, where they suspect he may have walked. Dead grass juts out between rocks and large boulders, and the only living vegetation is a few small shrubs. A boat moored on the bright blue sea of Agia Marina is visible from near the peak.
