Irish duo Jedward have shared a health update on their dad, John Grimes Snr, who was admitted to hospital during their time in the Celebrity Big Brother house.
The twins, who were announced runners-up to Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan, reportedly exited the house to discover their dad was fighting for his life in an intensive care unit, struck down with a mystery condition.
According to reports, the boys’ father had insisted on keeping the shock news from the housemates, who are permitted to receive important updates about family members from producers while participating in the reality show.
Jedward’s mum and manager told the Daily Star: “The last week has been very stressful for Jedward’s family. John Snr has been in intensive care. He insisted Edward and John must not be informed about his critical condition.
“He stated he would not jeopardise their chances of reaching the final, as ‘there would have been legions of disappointed fans.’”
A week on, the newspaper claims that John Snr is now on the road to recovery, and is expected to return home soon.
“The Irish twins say they will be celebrating with their father John Grimes Snr and the rest of the family at his birthday next month,” they reported.
Speaking on the Ray D’Arcy show, Jedward added: “Our Dad was in like ICU for two weeks, and now he’s been in recovery for the past two weeks, we went to see him yesterday and it’s his birthday this week.”
The Dublin duo also spoke about how much they enjoyed their second stint on Celebrity Big Brother, which they starred in alongside the likes of Kim Woodburn and James Cosmo last month.
They said: “We just went in there making the most of it, most people overthink it but we enjoyed it and did it for Ireland.
“It was like a massive sleepover for 30 days. It was a lot of fun.”
Looking towards the future, the X Factor stars revealed their plans to re-launch their pop music career, recently writing on Twitter: “We will be announcing concerts soon, cannot wait to see all of you! X”
In the meantime, we send our well wishes to John Grimes Snr for a full recovery.
