Celebrity Gogglebox's Bez recalls snorting drugs next to oblivious Piers Morgan

Celebrity Gogglebox's Bez has recalled the moment he unexpectedly meeting Piers Morgan during his Happy Mondays heyday.

Bez, real-name Mark Berry, hopped across seats on a plane in search the best, after feeling 'buoyed up' prior to a flight. He found himself pushing people aside to claim "the best seat" and ended up next to none other than Piers Morgan.

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, the 60-year-old reminisced how "everyone was laughing at me" for landing next to the renowned journalist en-route from Rio de Janeiro. Unfazed by the company, Bez continued to indulge following his band's five-day spree.

Host Kate Thornton, reports the Mirror, queried about the incident: "It was a flight to Rio, you were quite buoyed up for the flight, substances were being taken, and you find yourself sat next to Piers Morgan who at the time was a showbusiness reporter all the way.

"And you say across the course of the flight you put a blanket across your head and continued snorting whatever you had about your person."

Making no secret about the embarrassing moment, Bez, an influential figure in the 90s Madchester scene, confirmed "that's quite true unfortunately". He proceeded to share: "Everyone was laughing because I was jumping over seats and everything to get to this particular seat that looked like the best seat on the plane."

"I was clambering there, pushing and pulling everyone out the way to get there and when I dived into the seat, everyone was laughing at me because I ended up sat next Piers Morgan."

In fact, Bez admitted that he had consumed so many drugs and was so high that, by the time he disembarked from the flight, he had a massive rash on his face from licking it.

The Happy Mondays icon revealed that his band had travelled to Brazil to meet Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs. After the meeting, he claims he "scored biggest pile you've seen".

When questioned if he considered not taking drugs next to the journalist, he joked: "I was trying to be low key". He suspected Piers feigned sleep during the journey as "he didn't want to know that I was sat next to him".

Bez is now a regular feature on Channel 4's popular show Celebrity Gogglebox alongside friend and bandmate Shaun Ryder. The new series continues tonight at 9pm.
