Patrick Bamford has been told to "get his act together" after a "terrible" showing against Blackburn Rovers. Former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie criticised the striker's work rate following his late introduction as a substitute in Saturday's 1-0 defeat. It was United's first loss at Elland Road this season.

Bamford dropped to the bench last weekend, having gone five matches without a goal. Joel Piroe was preferred in attack but the Dutchman failed to impress, leaving Daniel Farke with a big decision to make ahead of the run-in.

Reflecting on United's slip-up, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I didn’t see that defeat coming. I watched him [Bamford] and he was just strolling about – he looked terrible. I don’t like seeing strikers strolling about like that.

“He missed a few big chances in the game and I was thinking that if his mind was on the game, he wouldn’t have missed them. He’s got to get his act together because he’s the focal point for Leeds at the moment.

United return to action on Monday when they travel to Middlesbrough. Three points is essential if they are to keep their hopes alive of securing a top-two finish.
