Brendan Rodgers believes depth is the key to hitting the heights of his first era at Celtic - as he recalls watching his SECOND team hit his first XI for five.

The Irishman stands on the brink of another league title with the Hoops this season and could add a Scottish Cup to that on May 25, but most observers agree Rodgers 2.0 hasn't so far lived up to the sky-high expectations he set the first time around. A patchy signing hit-rate has raised some concerns and Rodgers has been clear he wants to add more quality to his side this summer.

During his first season at Parkhead, the Hoops charged to an Invincible Treble, and went on to win EVERY domestic trophy Rodgers was involved in before he left for Leicester. Rodgers boasted the likes of Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie and Moussa Dembele all at their pomp and the level of depth he had was so impressive, his reserves even hammered his first-team in a training game.

That's the level of depth he wants to get back to as he said: "What is really important this summer is getting the level of quality that I want into the squad. That will be absolutely key for the growth of this team. The guys this season have been absolutely fantastic, but next season, we need more depth.

"I go back a little bit to my past here, I was going away to Ross County and making eight changes. I was bringing into that team Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie - these guys who have shown that they're Premier League quality. I remember going away to Dubai for a training camp, and the second team beat the starters 5-0. It gave me great food for thought when I came back for the second half of the season, it was a proper football game.

"That told me then the depth that was required. And that's something that's definitely required here. We lost a bit of that in the summer and there's no doubt we'll need to restructure that. But we have some fantastic players here and we want to add to that."
