The Chalk Mountain fire burning in Somervell County in north Texas was 6,705 acres (10.5 square miles) and 10 percent contained as of Thursday, July 21, according to the Texas A and M Forest Service.
Local reports said the wildfire had destroyed 16 homes and damaged five others as of Wednesday, July 20.
Evacuation orders were issued in parts of Hood County and recommended in regions of Somervell County, according to the Somervell County Sheriff’s Office.
