Chancellor avoids ruling out child detention under new asylum plans

Jeremy Hunt avoided ruling out the possibility of children being detained under the new small boat legislation.

The chancellor was speaking about the controversial new plan to deal with asylum seekers with Laura Kuenssberg.

He said “special arrangements” are being made for children but would not be drawn on whether the government will overturn arrangements which seek to prevent children from being detained in relation to immigration cases.

Hunt said questions about the specifics will need to be addressed to Suella Braverman.
