The House of Chanel has long enjoyed a love affair with the world of dance, harkening back to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s partnership with the Parisian company Ballet Russes in the 1920s and fast-forwarding into her house’s modern patronage of the Paris Opera Ballet (and numerous other institutions around the world). Now, for a fourth consecutive year, the storied brand has partnered with New York’s BAAND Together Dance Festival to gather five lauded New York City dance companies—including Ballet Hispánico, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and Dance Theatre of Harlem—for five nights spanning from July 30 to August 3.

As part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City event series, the festival will boast five performances, one taking place each evening at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday through Friday and another at 4 P.M. on Saturday. Seats at the David H. Koch Theater are available on a choose-what-you-pay basis, with a suggested donation set at $35 per ticket.

Programming, curated collaboratively amongst the artistic directors of each company, includes:

  • Blake Works IV (The Barre Project) by William Forsythe, performed by Dance Theatre of Harlem

  • Duo Concertant by George Balanchine, performed by New York City Ballet

  • Solo by Hans Van Manen, performed by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

  • Night Falls by Brady Farrar, performed by American Ballet Theatre

  • Sombrerísimo by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, performed by Ballet Hispánico

Ahead of these evening showcases, fans and students (of all ages and abilities) will be able to participate in free dance workshops taught by the companies and presented in the Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall lobby.

In a statement provided to ELLE, Shanta Thake, Lincoln Center’s executive vice president and Ehrenkranz chief artistic officer, shared, “A continuation of Gabrielle Chanel’s collaborations with renowned choreographers during her lifetime, Chanel’s longstanding support of this art form is vital.” More than a century after the House of Chanel first established such a relationship with dance, and Gabrielle Chanel herself found inspiration in its complexity of movement, the synergy between the art form and the fashion world continues to thrive.
