Chaotic Black Friday 2017 scenes in South Africa as supermarket Checkers offers half price deals on everything - including alcohol

Hordes of customers desperate to get their hands on cut-price booze on Black Friday flocked to a South African supermarket chain in chaotic scenes.

South African supermarket Checkers saw huge queues and scuffles break out after offering half price deals on all its products - including alcohol.

Huge queues formed ahead of the opening of many branches hours before they were due to open at 7am, with some customers queuing all night.

Eager shoppers lined up to get their hands on cheap alcohol and household goods just in time for the festive season.

Twitter users told of the mayhem online.

EWN Reported that there was a ticket system in place at the Checkers store in Canal Walk to keep eager shoppers at bay.

Hundreds of customers also queued with their trolleys patiently outside the branch at Mall of Newmarket in Alberton.

In Mthatha, busy scenes showed members of the public queue out outside the chain's liquor store to make the most of the cheap deals.
