Charlie Hunnam confirms he missed out on Anakin Skywalker role after 'awkward' George Lucas meeting

"I just remember walking out and thinking, 'Well, I'm definitely not getting that role.' And I was correct," the actor shared.

The Force was not strong with Charlie Hunnam.

The Rebel Moon star was once considered for another space-based project: the Star Wars prequels.

"I had forgotten that too, but yes, I did," Hunnam told Entertainment Tonight when asked about rumors he once auditioned to play Anakin Skywalker. "I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas, you know? Which... I don't think he meets a lot of actors. I think it was probably, maybe, two to three actors they were considering. I don't remember much about it."

Stars who reportedly were once considered for the juicy part of the young man who would become Darth Vader include Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Phillippe, and Paul Walker — but the role ultimately went to Hayden Christensen.

Of what he could remember about the meeting with the Star Wars creator, Hunnam said, "I remember that I was nervous and I was a little bit awkward. And I just remember walking out and thinking, 'Well, I'm definitely not getting that role.' And I was correct," he joked, adding, "Sometimes it's about the vibes."

Christensen played the role in Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. He notably reprised the part in recent series in the Star Wars universe: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka. The Canadian actor recently told EW he still "would love to get to do more" in the Star Wars vein.

"I don't know what the future holds, and if such an opportunity presents itself, I'll be there with a big smile on my face. And if it doesn't, I feel really grateful for getting to come back and getting to do the work that I did in both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka," Christensen said.

For his part, Hunnam can be seen next in Netflix’s Rebel Moon, streaming Dec. 21.
