The Chase's Anne Hegerty offered a player something he couldn't refuse.

ITV's popular afternoon quiz pits four ordinary people against one of the brainiest people in Britain. Everyone hopes to use their general knowledge to secure a cash prize that's often worth thousands of pounds.

This afternoon was no different, and one player was praised for his sterling efforts to send the prize pot figure sky high. David, originally from Bristol but now living in London, felt brave enough to challenge The Governess and gamble away with £4,000 for a shot at £32,000.

With only a tiny room for error, every question counted in the race to get his money to safety. Viewers at home were made up when the 38-year-old A&E doctor didn't break under the pressure and claimed the win.

One said: "What a guy! Hope there are no minus offers taken here #TheChase."

Another wrote: "First up, high offer & goes through. Very well done David!"

A third added: "Amazing start by David! He's one to watch!!"

The wins didn't stop there as every player contributed thousands to the pot. In total, the head-to-head clash saw £47,000 at stake which, split between everyone, would see £11,750 deposited into each of their banks.

Each group member - David, Tony, Natalie and Marion - put on a stellar performance and was able to put 23 questions between Anne and their victory. Host Bradley Walsh claimed: "This is gonna be proper close!".

The team were soon jumping for joy when Anne stumbled on a few questions, costing her precious seconds. The mistakes on her part saw the group walk away thousands of pounds richer.

Humble in defeat, Anne admitted she'd been set an "impossible challenge" and that one question even stopped her in her tracks with confusion. She commended the team as "really good players".
