Chelsea had hoped they were ahead of the pack to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace after opening talks with their fellow Premier League rivals over a proposed £60m deal. The Blues had not counted on the lure of the former German champions and one of Europe's established elite in Bayern Munich, who now look to have snared one of the most sought-after signings of the summer.

Their initial plans dented by a failure to sign Olise, the Blues have returned to another player they have long been linked with in the shape of Leeds United's Crysencio Summerville. Numerous reports around the London club suggest Chelsea are considering their next move around Summerville, with the club having scouted the player many times last season.

Brighton and Hove Albion are currently in pole position to sign Summerville having made initial contact last week, however no deal has been agreed and that has left the door open to Chelsea. The Blues have another option in Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, who is currently starring for Spain at the European Championships.

Aware that Summerville could be in even more demand should Williams move on the back of the Olise deal being completed, Brighton will look to escalate their own negotiations with Leeds as the number of potential wide men for the top clubs decreases further. Leeds would benefit from completing the deal before the June 30 deadline to this year's Profit and Sustainability accounts and a sale in the next week would help balance the books, but the club are set to play hardball to get the best deal possible.
