Girls Aloud took to the stage for the first Belfast show of their tour on Monday night, with Cheryl joking about the viral Nadine Coyle passport clip. The iconic incident on Irish Popstars from 2001 circulates on social media over 20 years later.

In the famous clip, Derry woman Nadine lied about her age to compete on the TV talent show. She was 16, but the minimum age requirement to take part was 18.

She accidentally let her real date of birth slip and said: “Date of birth is the fifteenth of the sixth ’85, making me a Gemini.”

The singer pretended to search for her passport when asked to prove her age, and she eventually admitted what she had done and was sent home.

At the SSE Arena on Monday night, a clip shared on TikTok showed that Cheryl said: "It never fails to amaze me how good it feels to perform here in Ireland. I'm so glad that we got to kick off the tour here, because what an incredible audience we've had...

"One thing I do know for sure... Irish people can really, really sing, really beautifully. I mean, fashioned by our very own Derry queen."

She added: "We had to come to Ireland anyway. You know why? To make sure Nadine remembered her passport."

In another part of the concert Nadine said: "I am 16 to everyone in Ireland and I will remain that way forever."

Thousands turned out to the Belfast gig on Monday night, with the girl band set to take to the stage at the SSE Arena again on Tuesday night.
