A fried chicken takeaway has been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating mere weeks after being slapped with the lowest rating possible. Chicken Point, in Falmouth, was given the damning rating following an inspection earlier this year.

Officers from Cornwall Council visited the site in April at which point the business owner was told major improvement was necessary. The owner, however, who had been in business at the site for only a few months said all problems were quickly resolved and he had no doubt the rating would soon improve.

And he was right as the popular takeaway restaurant, with plenty of rave reviews, has been granted a five out of five rating following a revisit of the site. Previously The Chicken Point was told that 'major' improvement was necessary in relation to its hygienic food handling and management of food safety.

In relation to its cleanliness and condition of facilities and buildings, the less serious 'improvement necessary' remark was made following the visit, which occurred after the business had been taken over, refurbished and opened for the first time as Chicken Point on February 29. The inspection came just under two months later on April 23.

The owner said at the time that all problems had been rectified and a revisit booked with Cornwall Council. "I've been in business for 20 years and I know how these things work but when I took over everything was completely wrong," he said.

Owner Adem Yazici, who says he's spent around £150,000 on getting things up and running, and runs other businesses in Cornwall, said: "We have done whatever they [Cornwall Council] asked for and will have a revisit soon."
