Chinese Rocket Debris Falls to Earth Over Indian Ocean

Spectators watched in Kuching, Malaysia, as debris from the Chinese rocket Long March 5B re-entered Earth shortly before 1 am local time on Sunday, July 31.

The US Space Command said the debris re-entered over the Indian Ocean. China’s space agency said wreckage of the last stage of the rocket entered earth in the early hours of Sunday.

Video filmed by Vanessa Julan shows a bright light soaring overhead. She said the video was filmed in the city of Kuching.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said China “did not share specific trajectory information as their Long March 5B rocket fell back to Earth,” and warned that rockets such as this “carry a significant risk of loss of life and property.” Credit: Vanessa Julan via Storyful
