Chris Martin Gives Young Fan Unforgettable Birthday Gift at Vancouver Concert

Coldplay’s Chris Martin delighted a young fan at the band’s Vancouver concert on September 23 when he performed a bespoke birthday song for him.

Martin brought young fan Leo, and his mother, onstage at BC Place and sang an original song to celebrate the boy’s 10th birthday.

Video shows Martin sitting next to Leo at the piano, pausing occasionally as he puts together improvised verses for the cheering crowd.

“Leo, I’m so happy that you’re sitting with me. It’s your very first concert, it’s 2023,” Martin sings.

“I’m happy that you’re here with us, with me and my band of men. I can’t think of a better place to be when you turn 10.”

The song also includes nods to Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Justin Bieber, who Martin describes as “sexier than me.”

Martin concludes his song by telling Leo to send his best to his three sisters, and saying he hopes to see the boy again when he turns 11. Credit: Shannon Deans via Storyful

CHRIS MARTIN: [INAUDIBLE]. I've trusted the universe. But this is called "Leo's Birthday Song." It's only going to be played one time at your first show. Are you ready?

[CROWD CHATTER]

What's your last name, Leo?

- [INAUDIBLE]

CHRIS MARTIN: [INAUDIBLE]. OK. Leo told us he likes soccer. You like Tracy Chapman. You got an assist today. You're 10 years old. You got the same blue eyes as me.

- [INAUDIBLE]

CHRIS MARTIN: You've got three sisters. OK.

[PIANO MUSIC]

OK.

(SINGING) Leo, I'm so happy that you're sitting with me. It's the very first concert. It's 2023.

[CHEERING]

I'm happy that you're here with us, with me and my band of men. I can't think of a better place to be when you turn 10.

[CHEERING]

You could go and see Justin Bieber. He's much more sexy than me.

[LAUGHTER]

Or you can go and see Ed Sheeran. He could do crazy things, you see. Or you could go and see Jay-Z. You could go and see Taylor Swift.

[CHEERING]

Or you could go and see Beyoncé. She's really God's best gift.

[LAUGHTER]

But, Leo, Leo, Leo, all I want to say, oh, Leo, Leo, Leo, thanks for being here today. Oh, Leo, Leo, Leo, I hope we blow you away. Thanks, my brother, Leo, for coming to see Cold Play.

[CHEERING]

So send my love to your sisters. I hope they're having a day from heaven. And make sure you come back to see us, my brother, when you turn 11.

[CHEERING]

Oh, Leo, Leo, Leo, thanks for being here today. Oh, I hope we meet again. I really hope and pray. Yeah, Leo, Leo, Leo, you could have gone anywhere today. Instead, my brother, Leo, you chose to come and see Cold Play.

[CHEERING]

OK, Leo, that's it. We love you, man. Happy birthday. [INAUDIBLE]. Let's go [INAUDIBLE].
