Chrissy Teigen Remembers 'Terrifying' Date with John Legend at 20 When She Feared Her Card 'Would Decline'
Teigen recalled that the fine dining experience included a $58 margarita for Legend
Chrissy Teigen is recounting a traumatizing date she went on with now-husband John Legend.
During an interview at The Hollywood Reporter’s studio at the Sundance Film Festival, Teigen, 38, opened up about the memory while speaking with David Chang and Joel Kim Booster about their new show, Chrissy & Dave Dine Out (streaming now on Hulu).
Almost 20 years ago, Teigen recalled going to her first upscale restaurant.
“I took John [Legend] to Jean-Georges when I was 20 years old, and I remember the margarita that he ordered was $58,” she said. “I was just blown away when it came out. It came out on a little dish and had little salts and everything.”
The cookbook author is the one who decided where the two would dine, but during the date she recounted feeling increasingly anxious.
“My heart broke because I knew then that my card would probably decline,” she said. “I ended up going to the bank and getting cash because I was so, so scared that it would decline, so I ended up getting out like $800 cash.”
While she said their meal at the New York City restaurant was “beautiful and wonderful,” there were so many negative feelings that came along with it.
“But the fear that went into having it…oh my God, I’ll never forget that feeling in my entire life. It was terrifying,” she added.
Teigen and Legend met on set of his "Stereo" music video in 2006.
All these years later, the married couple still knows how to keep the spark alive. Teigen shared that the pair celebrated Legend’s 45th birthday on Dec. 28 with a sexy visit to a New York City club. Her slew of Instagram photos and videos from their celebrations, included a video of herself giving the “All of Me” singer a lap dance on stage.

In the clip, Teigen wore a tiny fringe skirt and a dramatic feather hat for her dance, as the crowd went wild.
Another video showed them dancing together off stage on a dark, crowded dance floor.
Some celebrity pals, including Kate Hudson, showed some love in the comments section. “Well this look fun! 💃💃💃,” Hudson wrote.
Andy Cohen also left a cheeky remark on the post. “I hope you and John got into some pirate roleplay,” he joked.
