Christian Fuchs has warned Leicester City they must ‘act fast’ to find Enzo Maresca’s successor and insisted that the new boss must have input into the club’s recruitment ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Maresca, who guided the Foxes back to the top flight at the first time of asking, was confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager on Monday – bringing down the curtain on a short but eventful single season at the King Power.

The search for a replacement is already underway and Fuchs, who was part of the legendary title winning team of 2016, has a word of advice for his former club. “It's not so much about the name who's taking over, it's more about finding a manager that continues the path that Leicester started,” he told Sky Sports.

“It will be a challenge for the new manager no matter who's coming in because with the threat of a potential points deduction, key players leaving and the need to balance the books – things will need to happen fast.

“So whoever is coming in next to follow Maresca should come in very soon because I believe whoever comes in to follow the footsteps to continue this path should also have a say on player recruitment that fit the system.

“Again, for me, it's about that and that's something that Leicester obviously posted as well, they want to find somebody to continue this path and they will need to act fast.”

Fuchs, who played 152 times for City and was also an FA Cup winner in 2021, also voiced his fear that Maresca might not be given much time at Stamford Bridge.

The 38-year-old continued: “He did a great job at Leicester and Chelsea was very impressed with his work and how he has implemented the style of play and brought success to Leicester within a short period of time.

“I was more surprised by Pochettino’s sack (sic) but the biggest concern for me is again, how much time will he receive? Because the turnover of managers at Chelsea has been a quite big one at the moment. I just feel that he might not get enough time to implement his philosophy.”
