Christian McCaffrey is looking back on how he celebrated his dad Ed McCaffrey’s Super Bowl XXXIII win in 1999 — but it’s a moment that is a little lost on him.

“I don't think I really knew what was going on,” the San Francisco 49ers running back, 27, told the media on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

In a recently resurfaced photo from the game, in which the Denver Broncos beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-19, a 2 1⁄2-year-old tow-headed McCaffrey is seen excitedly running on the confetti-strewn field wearing his dad’s No. 87 Broncos jersey.

“That was me and my older brother Max just probably filled with joy, excited that we had an open field to play on,” McCaffrey said this week about the picture.

On Sunday, the 49ers star is aiming to have another celebration on the field — and to break a few records in the process.

If McCaffrey, aka CMC, and the Niners beat the Kansas City Chiefs, he’ll become the third NFL rushing champion to win a Super Bowl in the same year, following another Broncos legend, Terrell Davis, as well as Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith (1992, 1993, 1995), according to CBS Sports.

The McCaffreys also have the chance to become the second father-son duo to win a Super Bowl while playing on the same team — Ed was on the 49ers in 1995 when they won Super Bowl XXIX.

The younger McCaffrey was mobile at a preternaturally young age, his mother Lisa — who played soccer at Stanford University —  told The Athletic.

“He started walking around seven months, which was unusually early,” Lisa said. “I know that sounds bizarre, you can not believe me — but I swear that’s the truth. Ask his pediatrician. He was doing things his mind was not ready to do. It was like, ‘Please, don’t hang on the chandelier.’ ”

She added, “Christian’s brain was moving at a normal rate, but his body was moving faster.”

The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off in Super Bowl LVIII, airing on CBS on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
