Christmas is cancelled: Terry’s Chocolate Orange shrinks by 10%

The much-loved Terry’s Chocolate Orange has been reduced in size by 10 per cent - and consumers are outraged.

The chocolate treat is a traditional Christmas stocking filler, but this year it won’t take up as much space.

Eagle-eyed Terry’s fans have noticed that the chocolate orange has shrunk from 175g to 157g - meaning less choc for your buck.

The treat’s manufacturer, Mondelez International, has made it 10 per cent smaller than it was last year.

However, in many shops, the Terry’s Chocolate Orange remains the same price as it was 12 months ago.

A Facebook group, “Mondelez are shrinking our Terry’s Chocolate Oranges”, has become an outlet for agitated Terry’s lovers to vent their displeasure at the size change.

The chocolate orange was first produced by the now-defunct confectionary maker Terry’s in its factory in York in 1932.

The Terry’s name was later acquired by Mondelez.

The reduction in size actually occurred in May this year, but the vast majority of choc-lovers are only noticing now in the run-up to Christmas.

One online consumer said: “Great - another chocolate I can’t buy any more!”
