Cillian Murphy looked almost unrecognisable as he shared a photo of him on the set of his new Netflix movie. The Peaky Blinders star is leading the cast as Steve in the film of the same name, adapted from Max Porter's critically acclaimed novel Shy.

Cillian, 48, who is also a producer on the film, was seen sporting a grey beard and longer hair in a big change from his usual clean-shaven look in a polaroid featuring him with Max Porter and actor Jay Lycurgo. "Written by Max Porter. Starring Cillian Murphy and Jay Lycurgo. Coming soon to Netflix," read the caption.

In the picture, Murphy and Lycurgo are seen kicking back in chairs outdoors, both flashing smiles, as Porter stands proudly behind them. Lycurgo, a rising star in British acting who portrays a troubled teen in the flick, is also seen clutching a copy of Shy.

Fans were divided by Cillian's new look. One wrote: "Sorry, but I prefer you without the beard." But others were a fan, saying: "God how attractive a person can be."

Filming for Steve kicked off on May 25 and wrapped up on July 5. Big Things Films, a new venture by Murphy and his frequent collaborator Alan Maloney, was established this year to back independent creatives in the film industry.

The pair have also collaborated on the forthcoming film Small Things Like These, directed by Mielants and featuring Murphy in the main role. The movie is slated for an autumn release after being picked up by Lionsgate last month for distribution in the US, UK and Ireland.

Cillian is also set to appear in the new Peaky Blinders movie, which is due to start filming in Digbeth in September. A release date has not yet been revealed.
