Cineworld has written to customers to say a special cinema ticket deal at Cheltenham is being axed from today (Wednesday, May 8). The VIP package at the town centre cinema includes access to an exclusive lounge, complimentary dining and unlimited snacks and drinks.

But film lovers won’t be able to buy their £24.99 tickets after today's screenings. Films shown under the VIP banners, including the Fall Guy, were available today but not tomorrow at the Brewery Quarter picture house.

The special ticket was heavily trailed by the cinema in Cheltenham before screenings. People were shown tantalising shots of food and drink while being greeted by smiling staff.

The email, headed Changes to Cineworld ViP at Cineworld Cheltenham, reads: "Please be aware that ViP at Cineworld Cheltenham will close from tomorrow, 8th May 2024. From this point onwards, the current ViP offering will no longer be available. Further updates will be available on the Cineworld website soon."

A Cineworld spokesperson said: “To meet customer demand for more affordable luxury cinema experiences, we are turning these screens into a recliner offering with a small uplift added onto the regular 2D ticket price. We are looking forward to announcing more details on this offering very soon.”

Last night, Cineworld was still advertising the deal and tickets (which cost £24.99 for children and adults but with reductions depending on membership arrangements) could still be bought for Wednesday VIP screenings. The website said: "Make a special occasion extra special with an exclusive lounge, complimentary dining, unlimited snacks and drinks and our intimate screening room with luxury recliner seats. The ViP lounge opens 45 minutes before the advertised start time as shown on your ticket. You are encouraged to relax in our exclusive lounge prior to the start of your film."

On the Cineworld website, VIP screenings were only being offered at Cheltenham, Sheffield and the O2 in Greenwich, London, for today. More as we get it.
