BLUEFIELD — Bluefield's citizens are being invited to an open house this June where they can share their thoughts about a plan outlining the city's trajectory during the coming years.

The Bluefield Comprehensive Plan Open House Workshop will take place June 6 at the Arts and Crafts Center in downtown Bluefield from 5 to 7 p.m. This is an opportunity for community members to voice their concerns, share ideas, and participate in the planning process.

City officials have been working to create a comprehensive plan for the community. An important part of the comprehensive plan process is getting the public involved in identifying issues and helping develop goals and recommendations.

"Well, I know there's a lot of groups that are looking at some of the planning for their neighborhoods and areas," City Manager Cecil Marson said Thursday. "This is the collective of all of this together."

Representatives from Bluefield State University, Bluefield University, C.A.S.E. and the local school system have helped with drafting the city's comprehensive plan, he said.

"We've got a pretty wide swath of folks who are on the planning commission, so this is kind of fruits of their labor for the last year and a half to put this conference and this plan together," Marson said.

Marson said the hope is to finish the comprehensive plan by July.

"It's a central document that really helps us with our ordinances, our zoning, and getting everybody behind these projects and how they go together and how it ties into the neighborhoods and all the work we have been doing," he said.

The city's planning commission has developed an initial list of recommendations to address these issues. The public is invited to drop in for a few minutes or stay the full time, according to the city's announcement.

Primary concerns for the comprehensive plan include the following topics: — Housing — Youth Programming — Downtown Revitalization — Responsible Site Development Growth — Improving Quality of Life, Aesthetics, and Open — Space Opportunities — Develop Sound Municipal Land use Policies and Ordinances
