Yahoo News ‘Civil War’: A24 and Imax to Offer Sneak Peek of Alex Garland’s Film as Part of New Screening Program
The rush for Imax screens continues.
A24 and the large-format exhibitor are teaming to launch a monthly screening program that will showcase titles from the leading indie distributor that have never played before in Imax auditoriums.

The series kicks off March 27 with Alex Garland’s Ex Machina (2014). Following the movie, the audience will be treated to an exclusive sneak peek of the filmmaker’s upcoming dystopian pic Civil War.
A24 opens Civil War in theaters everywhere in North America on April 12, following its world premiere this week at SXSW (the pic was already set to get a full run in Imax).
Imax’s profile has never been higher, thanks to record-breaking numbers for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two and capped by Oppenheimer‘s Oscars sweep on Sunday, including winning best picture. When accepting the award for best director for Oppenheimer — which also did big business in Imax theaters — Christopher Nolan went out of his way to personally thank Imax CEO Rich Gelfond. Nolan has long used Imax cameras to shoot portions of his movies, including his epic biopic about the making of the atomic bomb, and encouraged Villeneuve to do the same when making Dune.
Imax says it isn’t only invested in promoting bigger studio films. The new A24 screening series, which will continue every month for the next year, is one example. Imax will digitally remaster selected classics from A24’s library of more than 140 feature films. Screenings will be held at more than 300 locations nationwide, as well as select sites internationally.
Ari Aster’s Hereditary will play on April 24, a Wednesday, followed by the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems on May 22, also a Wednesday. Additional titles haven’t yet been announced.
A24 and Imax have teamed up before, including on exclusive events for The Tragedy of Macbeth and a limited release of Oscar winner Everything, Everywhere All at Once and Beau Is Afraid.
