Massive Crowd of Gaza Civilians Heads South on Foot as Israel Advances Into Gaza City

Thousands of civilians headed toward southern Gaza on Friday, November 10, after Israel warned residents to leave the north of the enclave.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden said he had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a three-day pause to the fighting to facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries and allow civilians “to get to safer areas, away from active fighting” but ruled out a ceasefire.

“Let me be clear: Israel makes its own decisions,” Biden said. “They are fighting an enemy embedded in the civilian population, which places innocent Palestinian people at risk. They have an obligation to distinguish between terrorists and civilians and fully comply with international law,” he added.

This footage was filmed by Gaza journalist Yosef Al-Saifi, who said it was filmed along Salah al-Din Street, the main highway of the Gaza Strip and a designated safe route for civilians to evacuate, on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, Al-Jazeera reported the route came under heavy fire by Israeli tanks and multiple people were killed. Credit: Yosef Al-Saifi via Storyful
