Claire Richards has hit out at Twitter for not doing anything about the trolling she faces on the social media site.

The Steps singer used Twitter to criticise the company's bosses after she was hit with a number of tweets critical about her appearance.

She wrote: "Wow Twitter is all about giving tonight! I’m not sure I’ve ever been called a vile rude b****, the fat one from steps, a self obsessed chav, and told I can’t have any kind of ego as I only sing songs for 8 year olds in 4 consecutive tweets!

"What a world we live in 2023."

Richards added: "Not sure what triggered all that but deffo a massive reason why Twitter is a toxic platform! Whoever is in charge should be ashamed of themselves!!"

The pop star then reassured her fans that she was okay: "I’m fine btw everyone! I’m just sick and tired of this s***. It’s just not cool. Luckily I’m a 45 year thats heard it all and cares less now but we’re not all there yet!!

"It’s irresponsible of the people that run it."

Richards has previously spoken openly about her anxieties relating to her weight. Speaking to Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her Spinning Plates podcast, she said: "I remember going for a meeting years ago and our record company were trying to persuade us to do FHM.

"And the way they persuaded us, or tried to persuade us to do it was, they came and they brought two photographs. And they said this is the photo — the airbrushed photo — but this is what it looked like before, so look what we can do! We can make you look like this! And that was the selling point."

Last year, Steps celebrated their 25th anniversary with a tour, a greatest hits album and the release of some previously unheard songs.
