A pub in a popular Devon harbour town could soon be brought back to life after more than three years. The Skipper Inn, tucked away in a residential part of Brixham, is being marketed for sale by commercial property agents Sidney Phillips.

The pub closed during the pandemic and has not reopened since. It's thought to be the second time it has been up for sale since it closed.

According to locals in a Brixham community group on Facebook, the boozer was also previously for sale in 2022 but it's unclear if it was ever sold. They said it was a "shame" that the pub had closed but said it may have struggled due to its distance from the town centre.

The pub is thought to have been built in the 17th or 18th century and was first listed by Historic England in January 1975. It is currently Grade II listed, which means it is considered of "special interest".

More recently, it became popular among locals for its carvery and provision of live sport. According to WhatPub, it had a beer garden, an 'arena' screen showing sports matches, as well as a function room which could cater for up to 120 people.

In its most recent Tripadvisor reviews from 2019, customers praised the pub for its "welcoming" atmosphere, with some saying it had recently come under new management. They said staff were "friendly", describing the place as a "buzzy local pub".

One review said: "Visited the Skipper tonight as we heard it was under new management and we were delighted with the welcome we received. First impressions were how clean the pub was particularly behind the bar which was well stocked with lots of local favourites.

"The new management couple couldn’t have been more friendly and it was nice to see lots of local faces enjoying a brew together. The bar man was both friendly and professional and seemed very excited when explaining all the changes that were being made including theme nights and live music evenings.

"It was lovely to see such a mix of ages all feeling extremely comfortable and relaxed, exactly how you would imagine a buzzy local pub should be. I must say after a lovely evening the least I could do is show appreciation by giving an honest review and say a big thank you for a lovely Saturday night."

The Skipper Inn is now being advertised for £250,000, which includes the bar, restaurant, function room, catering kitchen, garden and three bed accommodation.
