From the family who brings you Mother, King, a new club night for queer women and their friends, is launching in Dublin. On May 26 in Opium, a fully accessible venue, get ready to bring some Big Dyke Energy to the dancefloor!

According to organisers, the monthly event will focus on empowering female-identifying folks in a safe and welcoming environment.

“Trans inclusive with a healthy disrespect for the binary, we want to create a celebratory space with undeniable female energy that revels in the queer joy we all feel when we are with our people and the vibes are immaculate,” they write.

King will also focus on programming a diverse range of DJs who are tasked with bringing fun and flirty vibes to their sets. Claire Beck will do the honours of spinning the decks on opening night, with crowds told to expect only the finest of tunes.

As one of the most loved and sought-after DJs in Ireland, Beck can usually be found on her weekly shows Saturday Soundsystem and All Irish on Today FM. Best known for her signature style, blending house, disco, funk and oddities, her performances serve music you forgot you loved or will soon love, as well as a few “weird curveballs” thrown in the mix.

Speaking about her excitement surrounding the new club night, Beck said: “I’m beyond thrilled about King, it’s exactly what Dublin needs right now and it’s exactly the kind of night I would be on the dancefloor all night for. I can’t wait to soundtrack the maiden voyage on the 26th.”

Also on board for this new project is Sarah Moloney, the creative behind the event’s stunning poster and brand identity. The queer designer and illustrator adds King to her impressive portfolio, which also includes work for ShoutOut, Other Voices, Harry’s Nut Butter, Baboró, Kilkenny Cat Laughs, Two Boys Brew and Ailbhe Reddy, to name but a few.

King will celebrate its inaugural party from 11 ‘til late on May 26 in Opium, Dublin. Tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite; secure yours now!
