Clyde defender Craig Howie held his hands up for his howler and admitted captain Barry Cuddihy dug him out of a hole in their draw with champions Stenhousemuir.

The Bully Wee were tied at 1-1 - with Robbie Leitch's opener cancelled out by an Edin Lynch strike - when the centre-back played a loose ball across midfield and Warriors ace Jordan Kirkpatrick pounced on the error to fire the Warriors in front with a thumping 25-yard strike.

So Rutherglen man Howie was relieved to see Cuddihy pop up five minutes later and head home what proved to be a precious equaliser for the league's rock bottom side in their battle to avoid the pyramid play-off final next month.

"Barry has dug me out of a hole a wee bit," said the 27-year-old.

"I just have to own up to it. I made the wrong decision, just trying to play in the middle of the park and I just slightly mis-hit the ball.

"It is an inch away from Granty [Ray Grant] and we'd have been out the other side, but it was good to see that the boys all pulled together to get something out of the game.

"It is our own errors that cost us and that has happened a few times this season.

"It is a game where we only give away two chances and they score them both. The first one is a corner where their players got in front of one of the boys and the second one is a slack pass from me in the middle and the boy rifles it in from 25-yards.

"But we actually piled the pressure on after going 2-1 down and played a bit better.

"We got the goal back with a great header from Barry and we feel we should have won it with a couple of chances at the end.

"We just need to put that to the back of our minds now with another massive game coming up."

The result left Clyde still a point behind nearest rivals Stranraer at the foot of the table with just two games remaining.

A home clash with East Fife on Saturday and a trip to Elgin City on the final day await as they look to escape finishing bottom of the pile.

And Howie added: "We have full belief we can win the next two games and if we can all cut out the individual errors, I think we can get the points we need.

"Some of our best performances have been against the teams at the top end of the league."
