Clyde's great escape stopped me cancelling my honeymoon, says Ian McCall

Clyde boss Ian McCall has revealed the club's great escape in League Two stopped him having to cancel his honeymoon.

The 59-year-old guided the Bully Wee to a 3-0 win at Elgin City on Saturday which ensured their SPFL survival and avoided them falling into this weekend's pyramid play-off final with Lowland League champions East Kilbride.

But the veteran gaffer, who has been in charge of Partick Thistle, Hamilton Accies and Dundee United, enjoyed a double celebration after avoiding an awkward conversation with Mrs McCall.

He said: "The best thing is Neil Scally had booked a holiday and I've booked my honeymoon for next Friday and we'd have to cancel it if we had gone into these daft play-offs. So, in that respect, I'm delighted for Clyde and I'm delighted for me and Neil as well.

"I just want to thank Mark Kerr and Neil Scally. Mark has had a real knowledge of all the players and Scally has done 80 per cent of the work, they have been fantastic.

"This club means something in Scottish football. I remembered going to Partick Thistle in 2007 and my remit being to beat Clyde because Clyde used to always beat Thistle in those days. Without a home, for us to go down to a lower league, I'm not sure there would be a way back. It can never happen again."

McCall was brought in on a short-term deal to steer the Bully Wee to safety, having been cut 12 points adrift at the foot of the table in February, and says he would be "all in" to stay on and try to haul the club back up the ranks. However, he admits there is a lot of work to be done over the summer.

He added: "The boys are really celebrating, but ultimately we're celebrating finishing ninth in League . We need to turn this around, we've got to do it with a bang, we can't take a year or two building things, we've got to go and win League Two and then win League Two.

"If they want to do that, I'm all in. If not then fair enough. But loads of changes need to be made, things I'm not used to. We will see how that goes."
