Colbert tees up Biden for Trump golf dig at NYC fundraiser
Comedian Stephen Colbert on Thursday evening teed up President Biden for a dig at former President Trump about his golf game and lack of campaign events.
Colbert, during a fundraiser in New York City, touted the president’s busy travel schedule in recent weeks. adding, “Donald Trump, as far as we can tell, has just been trying to win a third championship at his own golf course.”
“My question to you, sir, can voters trust a presidential candidate who has not won a single Trump International Golf Club trophy? At long last, sir, have you no chip shot?” Colbert asked.
“Well, look, I’d be happy to play — I told him this once before when he came into the Oval before he was sworn in — I said, ‘I’ll give you three strokes if you carry your own bag,’” Biden said.
Biden and Colbert were joined on stage at the event — which brought in more than $26 million for Biden’s reelection bid — by former Presidents Obama and Clinton.
Trump this week said he won two golf trophies at his golf club, prompting Biden to tease him for boasting.
“Congratulations, Donald. Quite the accomplishment,” Biden wrote on X.
Biden’s campaign this week released an ad hitting Trump about his lack of campaign events and his golf hobby. The ad includes videos of Biden taking selfies with people in the states and giving speeches and shows videos of Trump swinging a golf club and driving a golf cart.
The president visited eight swing states in March, as part of his uptick in travel following his State of the Union address. Trump is set to hold a rally in the battleground state of Wisconsin on Tuesday, which marks the second rally he has held since becoming the presumptive GOP nominee.
