A COLCHESTER charity is challenging people to walk barefoot over thousands of Lego bricks or shards of broken glass to raise money for the cause.

St Helena Hospice will be staging two eye-watering challenges where plucky supporters face four metres of toe-curling pain.

The walk daring brave souls to walk over pointy plastic Lego bricks is open to adults and children aged over five.

The glass walk is for adults and children over 11.

Both challenges will be taking place at the event village at the JobServe Community Stadium ahead of St Helena Hospice’s Midnight Walk on September 27.

Hospice spokesman Marcus Poston said: "We’ve previously brought you a walk across fire, but now is the chance to step on it for St Helena Hospice by conquering a walk across sharp objects!

“Many of us have unexpectedly stepped on a piece of Lego, so why not show those little bricks who’s boss and walk across thousands of them with confidence?

“Or focus your mind and bravely walk with us barefoot across broken shards of wine bottles – or even take on both challenges to raise even more money for St Helena Hospice.

“There will be lots of fun in the event village before the Midnight Walk itself gets going, so bring the family and enjoy the activities and food before waving off the night-time walkers, or before you set off yourself on the four or nine-mile route.”

A discount is available for participants in the glass or Lego walks who then take on the Midnight Walk too.

Walks will take place from 7.30pm to 8pm and 8pm to 8.30pm, with participants expected to arrive 30 minutes before their time slot.

Registration is £15.
