Cold Temperatures Create Graupel in Central Michigan

Temperatures plummeted in Michigan on Monday, October 30, dropping snow pellets known as graupel in parts of the state, video shows.

Cole Engle said he filmed this footage of graupel in Mount Pleasant on Monday. Graupel occurs. when cold water freezes onto already formed snowflakes as they fall, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The NWS warned that below-freezing temperatures could make roads slick through Wednesday morning. Snow was possible on Tuesday with rain “mixing in along the lakeshore,” the agency said. Credit: Cole Engle via Storyful
