Coldplay put on an epic show as they made history at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday night. The band are the first to perform as headliners at the festival five times.

But those tuning in to watch the set - which they kicked off with their hit Yellow - were a bit baffled by lead singer Chris Martin. The talented singer and piano player was interacting with the crowd a lot between their hit songs.

And fans were confused by his accent. Chris, 47, hails from Whitestone, Devon, but seemed to have an American accent as he addressed the crowd.

Chris actually spends most of his time in the US now. He is engaged to actress Dakota Johnson and they have a property in Malibu together.

@DC_THFC asked: "What’s wrong with Chris Martin’s accent?" @Kevsafc22 questioned: "Is it me, or is Chris Martin trying to speak with an American accent when he's talking to the crowd? #Glastonbury."

@JamesKinsey added: "Chris Martin’s accent is strange now when he talks. He does live in Malibu, California though which is probably the reason. #glastonbury."

Frontman Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, drummer Will Champion and bassist Guy Berryman were in great form as they played a set of their biggest hits, including The Scientist and Higher Power.

Chris was joined by singer-songwriter Victoria Canal on the piano for a rendition of Paradise, and later on in the night Back to the Future legend Michael J Fox made a surprise appearance with the band.

The actor was using a wheelchair has he arrived on stage to a delighted crowd and played guitar as Coldplay performed their final few songs of the night. Chris thanked Michael at one point, telling the crowd: "Thank you so much everybody and especially thank you to the main reason we are a band is watching Back to the Future. Thank you to our hero forever, Michael J.Fox."
