The Penguin, the new series starring Colin Farrell, has landed its broadcaster in the UK.

The Max series, a spin-off to The Batman, focuses on the titular character (Farrell) as he rises up through Gotham City’s criminal underworld, with the action being set a week after the events of the 2022 film.

With its premiere set for late 2024, UK audiences have been anxious to find out what channel the limited series will air on, and they now have their answers after it was announced that the show would air on Sky Atlantic whilst also streaming on NOW.

“The Penguin is an outstanding addition to our growing comic slate of films and series,” said Lucy Criddle, Sky Director of Acquisitions and Strategic Projects. “With the grimy world of Gotham City amidst chaos, the story continues The Batman epic crime saga and I’m excited to see Farrell take this iconic character to new heights in this eight-part limited drama series.”

In addition to Farell, the cast for The Penguin includes Cristin Milioti, with the How I Met Your Mother star set to play Sofia Falcone, the daughter of the now deceased Carmine (played in The Batman by John Turturro).

Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen and Michael Kelly have also been cast, with the trio playing Salvatore Maroni, Alberto Falcone and Johnny Vitti respectively. Craig Zobel, best known for his work on Mare of Easttown and Westworld, is directing the first three episodes.

Farrell had previously spoken about the series, which has been created by Lauren LeFranc, saying: “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot.

“I couldn't be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. [It] will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”

The Penguin will premiere on Max in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK in late 2024.
