Colman Domingo to Receive Actor Spotlight Award at Palm Springs International Film Fest (Exclusive)

Rustin star Colman Domingo will be honored with the Spotlight Award, Actor at the Palm Springs International Film Fest, it was announced on Monday.

The film awards will take place Jan. 4, with the festival running through Jan. 15.

“In Rustin, Colman Domingo demonstrates his impressive talents bringing to life civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, an organizer of the 1963 March on Washington,” festival chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said. “For this career-defining performance, it is our honor to present the Spotlight Award, Actor to Colman Domingo.”

Domingo’s credits include Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, for which he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and SAG Ensemble Award, as well as Zola, for which he received Spirit Award and Gotham Award nominations. He won an Emmy in 2022 for his performance in Euphoria. His other credits include If Beale Street Could Talk, Without Remorse, Candyman, Assassination Nation, True Crime, Selma and Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

He will next star in the musical adaptation of The Color Purple, which will hit theaters Dec. 25.

The festival previously announced that Emma Stone would receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, while Cillian Murphy would receive the corresponding actor award. Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon will be honored with this year’s Vanguard Award, while the Director of the Year Award will be bestowed upon Greta Gerwig. Jeffrey Wright will receive the Career Achievement Award, while Carey Mulligan is set to be honored with the International Star Award, Actress.
