Colorado Teachers Rally During First Day of Two-Day Protest

Thousands of teachers and their supporters rallied at the Colorado capitol on Thursday, April 26, for the first of two days of protests over state education funding.

Teachers from Jefferson and Douglas counties, two of the largest in the state, did not report for classes on Thursday, a news report said. Teachers wanted state education spending to be boosted while the teacher retirement fund was better protected. While Democrats support increased school spending, Republicans say spending already has been increased and funding is needed elsewhere, including on improving the state’s roads.
