Will The Conners get a second season? Well, star Laurie Metcalf seems to think so.

The Roseanne spin-off launched last year following the original show's cancellation, which all came after star Roseanne Barr sent out a racially insensitive tweet.

The Conners premiered late last year, though its ratings weren't as big as its predecessor, and a second season seems to be somewhat in the air at the moment.

However, Metcalf has offered a note of hope, telling Entertainment Tonight: "I believe it's going to happen. I think we'll do between 10 and 13 [episodes], something like that."

She continued: "I think the tone will be the same, but I love not knowing what's coming up at all.

"I don’t get the scripts until the Friday after we do a taping, and then I get to read what we’ll be doing starting next Monday."

Metcalf was speaking at the Critics' Choice Awards, and spoke about being nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

"I just think the writers did a wonderful job of keeping the tone and telling stories about the characters people have grown up with," she added.

Alongside Metcalf, fellow stars John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, Jayden Rey and Maya Lynne Robinson are all expected to return for a second season.

The Conners airs on ABC in the US.
